Does service learning work?

According to Campus Compact, service learning has been shown to:

  • Have a positive effect on students' personal development, including spiritual growth and establishing personal identity.
  • Provide useful service in communities.
  • Improve students' interpersonal, leadership, and communications skills.
  • Facilitate cultural and racial understanding.
  • Increase student's long-term commitment to community service.
  • Improve student's academic learning and their ability to apply what they learn in practical settings.
  • Strengthen relationships between students and facutly.
  • Improve overall student satisfaction with their college experience.
