Students begin GED program
Four students began offering classes to help Perry County residents who did not graduate from high school prepare to take the GED equivalency test during the Fall 2009 semester. Two nights per week, Judson students meet with community members hoping to attain their GED and work through training workbooks and practice tests. Ryan Dowling, the second year student who leads the program, explained the need for the project in this way: “Having a high school diploma or the equivalent gives people the opportunity to be more successful in daily life, as well as helping them become more likely to secure an adequate job.” A total of seven community members attended classes during the fall semester, with two on track to take the GED test in the spring. Sowing Seeds of Hope partners with Judson to make this program possible.
