Raising awareness of human trafficking

Judson senior Amy Butler and Director of Faith-Based Service and Learning Susan Jones organized an informal event to educate students on the realities of human trafficking on October 21. The event, called Be Active, was attended by seventeen students who watched a multimedia presentation, interpreted statistics, and read stories that raised their awareness of the problem of human trafficking. Each student who attended also received a resource guide that included a glossary of key terms, a list of websites with additional information, prayer requests, and a list of tangible ways to address human trafficking. Students were given a bracelet to wear as a reminder to pray for victims of trafficking and those who minister to them, and were encouraged to tell others about what they had learned.

“I was eager to be part of an event to educate about human trafficking, since I not only hold an interest in this social issue, but feel it is also a calling on my life to be active toward change. Be Active was a way to allow others to become aware of an issue they might not know about otherwise. I wanted to hold this event because I want to see change and I feel education is the first step. I also wanted to share my passion as a way to encourage other students to seek to find theirs.” -Amy Butler, Fourth year student
